Inventor to SolidWorks

I was wondering if the is a way to go from a Inventor file type to a Solidworks file type. One of our customers is asking for one or the other following file types: .asm or .prt.

They also mentioned something about "shrink wrapping" the file to all the surfaces. Would you happen to know anything about this.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum.

Depending on the versions of each, you can open up SW files directly into Inventor and I believe the same holds true for SW.

As far as Shrinkwrap, I have personally never used it, but if you check out videos on youtube or the help file it will at least give you an idea of what it is about.

I also believe that SW has something similar called Speedpack.

The SolidWorks file types are *.sldasm and *.sldprt

The best way to give them an assembly or individual part from Inventor is to Save Copy As Parasolid file type.

Unless you want to control intellectual property detail - let them do the "shrinkwrap" in SolidWorks to ensure they get the result they are after.
