Inventor suddenly behaving extremely slow.

I don't know why but all of the sudden IV is extremely slow.  When I start a brand new part I have to wait 30s to a minute just to project the origin on a sketch.  Every command takes at least 30s to respond.  This just started happening yesterday but wasn't happening 2 days ago.  I've restarted my computer several times but nothing.  Does anyone know why this would occur?  I'm running 2013 FDS ultimate.

Some things to look for, auto defrag, windows update or a virus scan can cause this type of behavior.

Sometimes you just need a good old reboot.

In addition those actions already given use something like Norton Tools to

1) Clean out the registry of old and un-used/un-needed entries

2) Defrag the registry

3) Use the more advance disk de-frag options

Also try

1) Increasing the size of you page file to something like the minimum to be equal to the amount of RAM in your machine and the maximum to be 2 x the minimum.

2) Use/open the minimum amount of programs, especially those the are memory hogs

3) If you can increase that amount of RAM

4) In Windows task manager under "Processes" find click on Inventor.exe RMB change priority to high, you may have to do this every time

These are just a few suggestions there will be more from other users PLEASE try all the solutions suggested from all users and give us some feed back THANKS

I don't think this is isolated to some individual users with performance settings tweeks needed. I have had this problem for what appears to be a couple of weeks, and have been teaching an Inventor 2016 class, and every student machine is experiencing the same difficulty. I don't think this is a network issue, as it happens wherever I am.

First of all you responsed to a posting that is over 2 years and referring to older versions of Inventor.

Secondly you state its slow..  What are your computer specs, OS, how much RAM do you have, and have you applied service pack 1 for Inventor 2016? Is Inventor slow all the time or just when you're do a certain task?   Where are your files stored?  Local or network?  Give us details...  Telling us its slow could point to a lot of things.

I guess a big "oops" is in order. I was specifically searching for Inventor 2016 and didn't pay attention to the posted dates. My apologies.

This problem is appearing on both the initial Inventor installation and on SP1.

Dell Precision M6700, Core i7, 64 bit OS, Win 7 Pro, SP1, 16 GB Ram, Nvidia Quadro K4000M

Files are stored locally. Slowness appears randomly while performing basic inventor tasks, meaning you can work for several minutes or through several commands, and the spinning circle will come on. After about 15 seconds, you are able to continue working. An example would be to create a sketch plane. When trying to click on a face to create a sketch on, Inventor doesn't respond, and eventually displays the spinning circle. If you try to click again (before the spinning circle displays), either nothing will happen, or Inventor will greyout and display the (not Responding) notice in the application bar.

I'm still teaching class today, so will try tomorrow to continue to specifically mark when the problem occurs.

I certainly don't have an answer for you, but I see this happening on my machine from time to time.  I'm pretty sure that it is something on my computer external to Inventor, and I've had it happen in Word and Excel as well.  It doesn't happen every day, but on the days that it does happen, it is generally more than once.  I've learned to live with it, and have not been able to correlate it to any other event.

Create Windows Restore Point when things are working well.

If using 3DConnexion device - Calibrate daily.

Hi! For 2013, I would try cleaning up files in %temp% and also turning off Superfetch and Quick File Open.

Go to Task Manager -> Services -> find Superfetch and turn it off.

Go to Inventor -> Tools -> Application Options -> File -> uncheck Quick File Open.

Thanks!
