Inventor Professional 2014 SLOW

Help...I am having major graphic issues with small assemblies, large assemblies, etc. Looking for some guidence on what some of my settings should be to balance performance with graphic smoothness. Graphical data is slow to populate and often reverts back to a previous view although it has been rotated....usually happens when zooming, panning, or orbiting, etc

I am running a 6 month old Dell Precision M6700 Laptop

  • 16.0 GB Ram
  • 64 Bit Windows 7 Professional
  • NVIDIA Quadro K4000M graphics card
  • Intel HD Graphics 4000 on board graphics

First, update your graphics card drivers. Dell is know to ship first release drivers with there machines and not current drivers. Some Dell machines ship with both Intel and Nvidia graphics cards. The default is Intel, if so, you need to go to the Nvidia control panel and select the Hi-Performance Nvidia card. This will improve performance as well.

I have a couple of suggestions. Note that you will need to re-open  work spaces after making these changes for them to take effect.

In the Display tab of the Application Options (Tools ribbon):

-Set the Display Quality to Rough

-Play with the Minimum Frame Rate (Hz) slider bar. In Inventor 2014, the value was increased to 20 HZ. Inventor will draw the largest objects first and smaller objects will drop out of the view as the model is panned/orbited. You can read more in the Improved Graphics Performance section of the what's new  document (below).

http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2014/ENU/?contextId=REDIRECT_IDD_DISPLAY_OPTIONPAGE

-In the Settings button (look under both Use Document Settings AND Use Application settings) toggle the Display Silhouettes option

In the Hardware tab of the Application Options:

-Use the Performance option. You may consider testing Compatibility and the Software graphics option to see if this has any effect on the graphic issue.

I hope this helps. Let use know if these suggestions or if updating the graphics driver has any net impact on the graphics problems. Good Luck!

Kind Regards,
