Inventor professional 2013crashes on windows 8.1

I have autodesk inventor professional 2013 installed on my windows 8.1 computer but whenever i try to open it I get error 0xc0000142. Inventor service pack 2 update 3 supposedly fixes it but when i try to run the service pack it says the pack cannot be installed because inventor is either missing or it is the wrong version of inventor to update. I downloaded the service pack from this page: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/update-4-in... and on this page, there is a special link to installation instructions for windows 8.1 but the link is broken. Please help.

To address this, you need to first install the service pack 2:

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-in...

Then apply the subsequent update4 from :

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/update-6-fo...

This is the page you're looking for, in particular the section about running the command line in the command prompt:

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticl...

The operations team are still trying to address the broken links.

Sorry !

I have experienced the same problem and I found that the windows upgrade from 8 to 8.1 was where the problem starts.

By returning to 8.0 and installing the fix packages I can now reusing Installer 2013 but it operates at a very slow pace and only with drawings I complete on my computer. If I begin a project on another computer and try to open it on my computer it will freeze.

Has anyone any suggestions please?

Inventor 2013 Is not fully supported on Windows 8 or 8.1. (i.e. use at your own risk, the service packs help but you still encounter issues.)

Inventor 2014 "works" with windows 8 and 8.1 (but runs much better on windows 7, IMO)

and

Inventor 2015 works with 7, 8, and 8.1 (runs smooth on these OS)

See the System requirements page for inventor.

For 2013

For 2015

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticl...

Note: In 2015, win XP is no longer supported

I hope this helps,

Inventor back to version 2012 is  fully supported on win8 & win8.1. You simply need to ensure you are using the latest service packs & updates.

Since 2013 is most recently mentioned below, please see  http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/update-6-fo...

...so you need to

  1. Install SP2
  2. then Update6
  3. then follow the instructions in Technical Solution TS22238097.

Thanks,
Chris

I'm happy to be wrong in this case,

You guys should update the system requirements page to reflect the updates 🙂

I've had the same problem. Upgrade from win 8 to win 8.1, getting 0xc000142 error for starting the program.

Now reading Cris' instructions: Install Inventor 2013 SP 2, 64 bit and Update 6; using the links mentioned.

After installation everything just works perfect and Inventor 2013 Pro just run again.

I think I will just jump over the Atlantic to give yor a pat on the shoulder.

Thank You
