Inventor Parametric Dimensioning- Power Relationshipc

Hi there,

I am creating a sketch and my first horizontal called x is 2in away from the neutral axis as seen in the picture. I now want to create a second line that is parallel to the x line but is x^2inches away (4 inches) from the neutral axis.

When I enter the formula

(x)^2 ul

I get 10.16 instead of 4

However if I enter

((( x ) * ( ( ( 1 ul ) / ( 1 in ) ) )) ^ ( 2 ul ) ) * ( ( 1 in ) / ( 1 ul ) )

Which converts it to ul (unitless units) and then back into inches it works????

Why won't the first way work, and is there a simpler way to do power functions in inventor? I can't find anything on this...

I would get ride of the "ul" at the end: http://help.autodesk.com/view/INVNTOR/2015/ENU/?guid=GUID-69D04C7D-E195-49C0-B1B2-03C88A806D9D

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

Cancel out unit so you don't end up with unit^2, then multiply by 1unit.
