Inventor is not a toy... or is it?

See .avi in IVCF, warning - size is 10 megs.
Thought someone would enjoy a little levity for the holidays. This
started as the constraints tutorial on Adsk web site. It worked so
well I decided to keep adding till IV broke. It's not surprising I
ended up with something that looked like a stamping press, complete
with feeder, de-reeler and oil spray. Then I decided to get cute and
add a sailboat to the oil reservoir... that's when it turned into a
toy. No better way to learn than repetition, and I replicated. The
first 5 hours everything was breaking on every move. After I figured
it out, I couldn't believe how easy and solid it was. It's all stock
constraints driven by the blue crank gear. No equations or macros. IV
lasted longer than I did, but it got pretty slow to work with. I'm
thinking IV would be very popular if it sold for $59.00 and was called
Inventor Tycoon. :o)>

My modesty prevents me from answering yes. But I would be thrilled.
And if you did I would email my buddies to go check it out.--------

Would you take the job if I told you the crank moves the
man?-----------

At least a hundred hours. But I'm new, so there's a lot of learning in
this file. I'm sure I won't do another... Not without a goal, a plan
and a purpose.-----------

This is just IV. Surprised you too huh? There are 1250 entries in the
parameters table. There are a number of gaps in the sequence. There
are a few items under the mounting plate driving things, like a big
plate with a spline sketched groove to track the car. THe car hits the
crank, but after tweaking in the track to narrowly advoid the buzzsaw
it would not move any more. That was it, I called it quits, after so
much work every move was making me nervous.

Very impressive! Much kudos to you.
I'm sure it would be a great learning tool for others to dissect to utilize
some of the constraints.
Are you planning on posting the inventor files?

Superb job!

It's kind of like watching one of those paintings where the stairs have no beginning or end. You keep looking at it trying to find what you missed the last time you looked at it.

Two thumbs up!

Can someone post a "makeashorterlink" so I can show this to my non-Inventor
savvy friends at other locations? Thanks! BTW, very cool.
