Hi,
Can anyone please tell me know what file type I should save a Inventor Part or Assembly file as to send to a client who uses Solidworks.
I have tried the igs and STEP formats, however all of the set axis and defined features in the family tree are lost during the transfer.
All of the feature history will be lost no matter what format you choose. But for convenience for your client, save as Solidworks format. And, next time, be sure to include your Inventor version with your first post.

What version (release) of SW are they using?
What version of Inventor are you using?
Inventor has the ability to save to SW format but it depends on the release you are on.
Saving as either an older version or the current version of SW would allow your client to open the files.
Heck, if you want, post the files here and I or someone else here can save it to a SW release you're in need of.
FYI - We have both 2012 and 2013 releases of Inventor which should allow what you're in need of.
Jim,
I was looking to do this this morning and while I can export as :Catiea, Pro-E, Sat, Stp, Para Solid, JT, STL,XGL, ZGL , I see no option for saving in SolidWorks format. I am using Premium 2013 So I should have all options but I was surprised not to see the option for SW. Conspiracy? Who Knows 😄
Inv 2011 and there is no option to export or save as an SW file type.
In which version does Inventor allow part or assy files to be saved out as an SW file type?
Oops... I was sure that we could save to SW format, but it's certainly not there in 2013. Sorry!
