Inventor 9 & 10 License Export

Good day all,

Boss brought an old laptop to work and (although he has inventor 2012) asked me to figure out how to export his license from both Inventor 9 and Inventor 10 (two seperate licences, not updated from one to the other).

So I fiddled with the license manager tool and it gives an 'Export' and 'Add' option. When I hit export it tells me it will export the license to 'this computer' (the laptop) but there is already a license in place. Do I want to over write? I say no cause that doesnt seem correct. So I hit add and it asks me for the name of a computer to add to it. wth.

Never used this old system but this license manager tool seems like crap.

Any help would be great.

Forgive me if I get this wrong as I haven't used the licence manager in ages.

I believe you need the recipient computer to generate a code from its licence manager to be able to tell your laptop where the licence will be going to.

This would be the code or name you enter into the laptop when you click add.

I think you can also set an expiry date on the licence if it is only temporary so that the licence will stop on the new computer and restart on the laptop, don't quote me on this though!

The first link speaks of network licences which is probably not applicable to you.

The second is 2012 so the licence manager has probably changed since Inv 9 / 10.

Hopefully a little help but not much I fear.

Thanks for the reply. I dont think he has installed Inventor 9 or 10 on his current computer, maybe I will do that for him and see if I can try it from the way u suggest.

The new license transfer util is very plain and simple so long as you dont forget your username/password. I used it last about 6 months ago and it was a sinch. I was kinda hoping there would be an update to the v9 or v10 util to make it more like the new one.

Oh well, I will give the install an attempt first and if not, I will be back!! haha

Thanks again! 🙂

As you know, Autodesk changed the std alone license transfer methord from 2009. Before 2009, you could transfer the std license from Computer A to Computer B with network connection.

You could export the license file in the computer pool from A to B. As you have installed the Inventor 9 and 10, you could find a file named adsk_slg.pdf. (I am sorry, I only have chinese version right now) This pdf file tell you how to transfer the std license.
