Inventor 7 Anyone ?

I've had IV 7 sitting on my desk for the last 2/3 weeks. Not had the courage to install it yet. Has anyone else ?

Look in the Inventor 7 Discussion group and you will be able to see very well
that there are tons of people who installed. 95% improvement, 5% new bugs. (You
could wait until SP1 if you are still using ACAD 2000/2000i2002.)

I've let mine sit as well. Seems like the issues I worry about are the
problems with drawings that I've read about. I'm not loading until IV7sp1,
because IV6sp2 is stable enough for me.
I haven't switched to Acad2004 for a different reason - because we have
suppliers still on R14. I don't like letting the tail wag the dog, but that
decision isn't mine to make. Tim W.

It would be a good idea to wait. There is nothing to gain from using r7.
But, with the files being interchangeable between r6 and r7, you should not
lose any data from using r7, if you want to try it.

...we uninstalled r7 and are shelving it until sp1 comes out. i had major
problems with power exits and memory errors. my co-worker had many issues as
well. we both are running winnt 4 sp6a with quadro 64mb cards. are systems
are configured similarly.

since i tried r7, i have replaced motherboard, all new rdram, fan, floppy
drive, and flashed bios to a newer revision. r7 did not cuase all of this
but it was my flaky install of r7 that made me decided to fix some computer
issues that i was having before hand. i think i have fixed all of the issues
that i was having with my workstation but would like more time to verify.

i'm still not comfortable installing r7 yet. besides, it's not much of an
upgrade from r6. the features that they improved were more or less for those
with much bigger assemblies than what i deal with on a day-to-day basis.

i'm reading about a few bugs that r7 is having and i'm not interested in
experiencing those bugs right now.

My R7 has been a big improvement over R6 in both speed and stability. I am
surprised to hear there are some that have had bad luck with it. I would
never go back.

Besides a wierd veiw alignment bug, 7.0 has been a
big improvement over 6.0 and its SP's; especially in regards to larger
assemblies.

I'e been using IV7 for a couple weeks now, of course I just started my job 4 weeks ago so I didn't really get into IV6 at all. As far as crashes and "poofs" that people are complaining about on here I haven't had any significant problems at all, maybe my work isn't as complex as others.

You only live once go ahead and install it!. lol

I heard it was really IV6 SP5. So it should be
stable.

Do it! You will not find a lot of new features, but it's more stable
than IV6 -> you will have less trouble.

Why take a chance ... may as well wait for R9! I've been running it
since the day R7? was announced; good release.

I'm waiting for a reason to upgrade. The couple of power exits per day I
have now is liveable. Not running huge models. Trading one set of iBugs
for another set doesn't seem like progress. Maybe after SP1...

BTW if you do a fresh install of IV7 and then follow that with an install of
IV6, a message box appears saying IV6 SP5 is already installed. A little
strange.

What is tagged IV6 SP5 is probably code for iTeam's last internal build (or
the one they chose to include at least), so I would imagine if you tried to
load R6 over R7 it could be expected that a newer build of R6 code might
already exist.
