Inventor 7 and IBM Thinkpad A31P Problems

I purchased an IBM A31P that claims to be certified by IBM for use with Inventor. However it gives me a lot of video card problems (ATI Fire GL, 7800). Half the time it does not want to work at all. I get 2 error messages EVERY time that Inventor 7 starts telling me that the video card driver (from IBM) is not certified to work with Inventor and that I need to do a change to the Registry. IBM refuse to help and I have downloaded and successfully installed the latest BIOS (1.08) from IBM as well as the latest ATI video card driver.

Does anyone have any experience with the IBM A31P and Inventor?

We had best success with the FireGL7800
using

driver version 3056 and the latest hardware
library.

You can get both from here:

Although I don't know nothing about IBM's
Thinkpad.

BTW: you can suppress the error messages in
the

application options in the hardware
tab.

With all due (dis)respect, even the CAD benchmarks on the IBM web site
do not compare any of the more graphic intensive CAD programs. They do
however compare more gaming oriented graphics benchmarks like Light Wave
and 3DS. I notice that Dassault logo at the bottom of the benchmark
page but no Catia or SW.

I too, have struggled with the IBM laptops (T40P). We have escalated to
IBM and are still having problems. The IBM portables are great pieces
of equipment, rugged etc but until they can get the graphic driver issue
solved.... It isn't just Inventor; we recently did a benchmark on
another CAD program and it suffered as well. We also benchmarked the
Dell M60, what can I say other than "I want one".

THINKPAD A31P
well thank you charles ,that you also expressed this i also run catia v5 .11 and it also cannot run normal on it
even this program IBM on prgram cannot do this
we had to run it still on a workstation
the funny thing is on a cheap computer with asus card on it fly´s .
and that card also can do the same as the expensive hardware of ibm does altough its not portable
i want it on a portable to travel around the world and evrything on it spend a lot so we did not want to say the money spendid was the problem but since it cannot run on it its a expennsive toy to play with.
now i am doomed to buy another laptop that can do this .
you just do not expect those thing from ibm
but its true waht they say there own words your too slow, your in denile, and too expensive
