Inventor 2017 SP1 installation failure

Well, SP1 is finally available to fix various issues. One of these fixes should fix a presentation issue that really slows my workflow to a crawl. When installing, I get this warning:

Install Error 1.JPG

Then I get this failure:

Install error 2.JPG

The long is pasted below. I have tried this through Autodesk Desktop and through download and then run as administrator. I do not have any permission issues as I am both the computer and network administrator. I am running Windows 7 64 bit and Product Design Suite Ultimate on certified hardware.

Log:

@jporter

I saw this in the installation log: [08D4:24E8][2016-07-25T08:40:13]i000: There is a Beta version of this update already installed. Please remove the Beta version and try this installation again.

Do you have the beta version of R2/SP1 installed?

I don't think I installed a beta. In my installed programs, I don't see a service pack installed. Here is my program list. What am I missing.

This is confusing....

An email I received last week states R2/SP1 will be released sometime on July 25 or 26th...

But the information on the web page states Jul 12th..  Is the date of the document incorrect?

It confuses me too, but I certainly didn't try installing it until last night.

When I had the beta installed for testing, it wasn't listed in the Autodesk Inventor 2017 section..  Scroll up to confirm..  I know people had issues with Inventor 2016 R2 installation and they ended up uninstalling 2016 and putting it back on.   Not saying you need to do that at this point but you are the first to report something.   In addition are you installing R2/SP1 or just SP1?   You may also want to look in the "View Update" section as well of Add&Remove programs to see if there is any SP1 stuff listed there for Inventor 2017.

The only inventor 2017 entries are content center, electrical catalog browser, and Inventor itself. Obviously I would prefer to not uninstall the original program as mapping content center, templates, and other items is certainly time consuming.

All I can say at this point is to launch Inventor, select Help/About Inventor and see what the About Inventor dialog states.  If you want post a screen shot here of that info.

Here's mine after I did uninstall the beta R2/SP1 installation

Do you by any chance have Norton Utilities installed. I had that installed last year and it caused similar problems. There were two work-a-rounds that I used first was for hotfixes where doing a repair install of IV corrected the registry entries, Norton dose something to them, and the other was to uninstall IV and reinstall the install the SP. Got fed-up with Norton Tec's blaming either IV or my stem I got shot of it. Now I have no problems what so ever.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do not have Norton Utilities installed, but I did disable my antivirus and anti-malware (AVG and MalwareBytes). I still get the same errors.

I know this doesn't help your situation but I just installed R2/SP1 for Inventor 2017 and mine went through (and its working).   Since you got a message about the job service, have you rebooted you machine, stop the job service, and then try the update?

Here's the thing...I don't even see that service in my running services. Yes, I have restarted. I'm trying not to be this guy:

John,

Our install team are investigating what circumstances may have caused this install error; if you were on Build142 plus the cumulative hotfix then you should be good....did you manually copy any files into place to do any testing along the way.

Mark - The date on the Download page has been updated to correctly reflect July 25th.

Thanks

Chris

Disabling the Autodesk Simulation Moldflow MITSI 2017 Job Manager service and retrying was a suggestion from the Install team.

If that doesn't work or the service isn't found, can you install the Autodesk® Installation Diagnostic Assistant and post the results?

I don't show that as installed. I sent you the log file in a private message. Thanks for working on this with me.

After running a repair from the windows add/remove programs utility, the R2 update installed properly. Thank you all for the help.

Ultimately it looked like at install time of your 2017 the installer choked on the instillation of the Autodesk Simulation Moldflow MITSI 2017 Job Manager.  That process has some dependencies on various Visual Studio runtime's which were likely not initialized or installed on your first go around.  Internally, we're discussion what could have caused it but the simplest approach was to try the repair of your original install.  Glad it worked and you're running.  If others encounter it you can run the AIDA and post the logs for us to try to trace the cause.

My first installation of Inventor 2017 R2 updated failed!  Very frustrating!  I'm attaching my log file. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Hey buddy, how's it going?

Log file states you have a beta version already install?  Do you have beta R2/SP1 installed?

What happens if you run a repair like the original poster did?

Also copy the install locally and run it from there,
