Inventor 2014 keeps switching to compatibility mode...

Greetings everyone,

here's my specs:

Alienware Aurora R4 - I7-4820K - 16gb RAM

Nvidia GTX 780 - 256gb SSD

I know that the GeForce series aren't "certified" by Autodesk, but still, why would Inventor keeps switching to compatibility mode? I had the same problem with my older computer, with a Quadro 3800.

How can I modify my settings so It stop switching from Quality to compatibility, it's getting pretty annoying.

OS?

Nvidia driver version?

Is Inventor crashing?

Have you installed all hotfixes/servicepacks?

Do you have proper permissions? (are you an admin on that computer?)

Does it always do it? or just sometimes?

Have you tried logging in as a different admin user?

Inventor writes to the Windows Registry with changes when you properly exit Inventor. Open the Task Manager and look for another instance of Inventor running. Possibly a bad user profile, or lack of sufficient user privileges to allow Inventor to update the Registry. Try running with a different user account/profile and one with Admin privileges.

Greetings,

I'm admin on this computer, and was admin on the older comp. Can I manually changed the value in the registry via Regedit?

One thing that is not mentioned in this thread is the Graphic care must be Direct X compatable for the version of Direct X Inventor uses. If the card is not the only mode it able is compatiblity. Check with the manufacture and there specification to see if the card is Direct X complyent and for what versions.

The system spec's for Inventor 2014 are Direct3D 9 (Direct3D 11 or highter recommended).

I have an Alienware Mx17 and it has a dual graphics card setup, an Intel 4000 on board and a Nvidia GTX680 card. In the Nvidia control panel there is an option to use the GTX card over the Intel card. I had slow performance with Inventor and Showcase until I made the change. It could be trying to use the Intel on-board for Inventor.

I had hope for a bit, but then, as you can see in the attached picture, the only display adapter I have is the GTX 780....

Check in the Nvidia control panel and not the Windows Control Panel.

Have you tried to shutdown and restart inventor after changing the hardware option to Quality mode?

Although it is enough for changing hardware option with all documents closed, sometimes it still doesn't work until restart inventor.

Thanks,

-Lisa

Greetings,

I've tried way too many times to restart Inventor, computer, you named it. It always keeps getting back at compatibility mode.

I also checked every options inside my Nvidia control panel, and there's no option for switching graphic cards.

Thru the Manage 3D settings tab, I went to the program settings, added Inventor.exe and then boost everything possible. Same thing happened...

In attachment, you can see the Nvidia control panel with the available options on the left.

Cheers,

My laptop is at home, I will have to boot it up tonight and get a screen capture. I would make sure that I am on the latest graphics card drivers from Nvidia for your card.

Hi,

Can you check whether d3dx11_43.dll, d3dx10_43.dll, d3dx9_43.dll exist in C:\Windows\System32 folder?

If not, please reinstall the DirectX installer from Inventor Setup\3rdParty\DirectX.

If yes, please check whether below files exist in Inventor bin folder C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2014\Bin:

OGSBridge.dll

OGSFactory.dll

OGSArchive-4_0.dll

OGSATILIntegration-4_0.dll

OGSDeviceDiag-4_0.dll

OGSRapidRTShaderInterface-4_0.dll

OGSRapidRTShaders-4_0.dll

OGSFragmentsLibrary-4_0.ogsf

You could change the hardware options through below registry, please have a try and let me know whether it works.

Before doing that, make sure Inventor is closed.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion18.0\System\Preferences\Driver]
"Hardware Driver Type"=dword:00000103
"Optimization Level"=dword:00003333

After Inventor start, new a document and get the Inventor Diagnostics from Application Options->Hardware->Diagnostics, copy and paste the information here if it still doesn't work.

Thanks,

-Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I've made the changes into the Registry, restarted the computer and Inventor, and still have the same issue. I've attached the

diagnostic file.

Hope it gives you a good clue!

Hi Ghislain,

From your attached diagnostics, actually the Performance mode has taken effect already. But you still see the Hardware option is "Compatibility" in UI?

This Direct3D graphics driver is Microsoft WHQL certified
Graphics Hardware Description:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780

AIRViz Device Manager \ VirtualDeviceDx11
Feature Level 5_0
Performance Mode
Hardware Renderer

Thanks,

Greetings everyone.

At last, the problem as been corrected!

IT gave me access to read/write into the C:\program files\Autodesk, and voilà!

Thanks to all of you who took the time to check it out.

cheers,
