I have an assembly model with a mix of normal parts and structural shapes from content center. I am using the FEA environment in IV 2014 to run modal and force studies. The some of the structural shapes, in this case ANSI C channels, were placed as custom parts. Others were created by using copy-paste and the Save and Replace Component command. I do not use Frame Generator.
Normally this workflow creates models that work fine in the FEA package, but in this case, four ipts are causing problems in the FEA. The Automatic Contact tool will not create contacts to these ipt files. They are constrained to be touching other components in the assembly and should get automatic contacts. I can create manual contacts using these files, but the solver ignores them. The parts get meshed, but they are treated as independent bodies in the solver. This is true for both the modal and the force studies.
Is this a known issue?
Are there any known workarounds?
I haven't started a support ticket with Autodesk or my reseller, but that will be my next step.

Look at the Minimum Gap setting in the main settings screen for the FEA. If the interpart distance is greater than this gap they will be treated as non-contact parts.

In this case, the problem parts are constrained in the assembly by mate constraints with 0.000" offsets. My minimum gap setting is 0.004". That should create an automatic bonded constraint in the FEA, but doesn't. Automatic constraints work fine with other instances of the same ipt file, so it is very odd.

Try increasing this value, I've seen this a number of times and it's solved the issue. I know it should automatically solve with the 0.004 gap setting but it's popped up a number of other times.
I have logged an incident with development for a similar sounding issue. See the below link for reference.
I will email you directly and work with you offline on this issue.
Thanks,
Thanks.
I will send you an email as soon as I have my dataset together.
