Where is your workspace ? On a network drive ? From what I hear it's local but just to confirm.
Are you using vault over the network?
My workspace is on my C: drive...
My libraries are on my C: drive
My templates are on a network drive
My content centre is on my c:drive but drawn from the server
I have one folder search path set for a network drive too
this morning...i log in...
i start to load in a drawing...20 minutes later i give in...loading is so slow...
I quit autodesk inventor...
i pull out the network cable...
restart inventor
load the same drawing I tried to load earlier...
30 seconds later it's up...
what is making it slow running on the network?
my files are on the C: drive??!
If anything...when not connected to the network, the only path's highlighted in "red" are the template & content centre paths
anyone???
knowga,
Can you please tell me where your IPJ (Project file) getting your Design Data, Materials and Appearance files from?
I they are set to default, what is your design data setting on the File tab in Application Options?
Thank you.
Hello,
thanks for replying and taking this a step further
the Design Data is pointing to a network drive...
Materials...same network drive...
Appearances...same network drive...
for what it's worth ... the above folders are in the same folder...CAD\Inventor 2013\Design Data
honestly, the "waiting" circular icon can be whirling around, the inventor window say "not responding"...yet all the files are in my C: drive working folder...and as SOON as I removing the network cable, the model loads up fine...and inventor behaves normally...bar anything being dragged from the network...
It's only started happening for the last few months...so something must have changed...some setting somewhere...
but what? I have no idea!
thanks
Gary
also...application tabs is pointing to the same directory...the CAD\Inventor 2013\Design data path
yes...the vault is on the network...although no items im working on are in the vault...all items are on my c: drive.
I vault projects when they are complete and issued for manufacture.
knowga,
Lets bring the following from the network to a local location:
Design Data is pointing to a network drive...
Materials...same network drive...
Appearances...same network drive...
You will then need to create a new Vault IPJ to utilize the new locations.
I suspect that the server is not up for all of this traffic.
Please try this and let me know.
Bob,
I've done what you suggest.
I started working on some stuff as normal...Im gonna try a large assembly file later AND attempt to open the content centre editor...as those 2 actions ground my pc to a halt.
But I can't see now how this setup will be slow.
The previous setup (on a network drive) was accessed by all the CAD users...so the materials etc were seen by all.
I've told my immediate boss this reply and as soon as its proven that this is faster than the network (cant see it NOT being the case) then we can upgrade the network to a gigabit speed.
Cheers Bob...
I'll post all outcomes on this thread so anyone having the same issue can read it.
regards
Gary
update so far...
well...you would think that having EVERYTHING on my C; drive and everything pointing to paths on my c: drive...network wouldnt be an issue...
sadly it is...
i really dont get it now...nothing is pointing to an external directory on another drive...
I go to load an assembly, part or drawing ...that is in a folder on my c: drive
and it's slow...really slow...it hangs...
then i remove my network cable...and ... it starts to load properly and...there it is
loaded...
project file is pointing to my c: drive folders
and inventor material library etc are pointing to c; drive folders....
something is causing this issue...a hidden folder path? a path that is being used and cant be changed manually?
i really dont get it...
oh...and yes...i've done the reset inventor as well...
it is still the same
I have no clue as to what is doing this...
Gary
knowga,
Please create a new IPJ using all of our default locations.
I suspect that you have some corrupt information and we need to define where and what it is.
If all of the default work fine then we will add one thing at a time back in until we define the culprit.
Will this work for you?
