Inventor 2012 parts lists

Is anyone else having problems with parts lists not showing the correct part numbers of the parts included in the assembly. In some cases I've made a new part by renaming an existing part but when I create a parts list it shows the part no of the original existing part used to create the new part, even though the new part is the one in the assembly. Also I have just had a number of similar assemblies and needed to produce parts lists for them. I created the first one and then used 'save as' to rename the drawing including the parts list. Then when I re-opened the newly renamed drawing I assigned it to it's new assembly. However the parts list did not update to show the new part numbers included in it's new assembly.

Is all this a glitch in the system or is there something in the set-up which is causing this problem?

I’m not sure I’ve understood correctly your workflow.

By the way, if you use Design Assistant for making these changes, everything should be in sync at the end.

Please, find attached a video showing how to use Design Assistant for one specific workflow.

If this is not exactly yours and you think you cannot do what you want with Design Assistant, please, provide me more details about your workflow and I’ll be happy to assist you further.

Kind regards,

Alessandro

I have the same problem.  I use design copy from the vault and the file names are correct; however they do not update within the assembly browser.  I'm using the frame generator.

I tried the suggestion of using design assistant and it made no difference. All the details are correct but the parts list doesn't always update.

Glad to hear someone else is having similar problems, so hopefully it's not just me!

When I am replacing a part with a new one like you described, I like to use the "Save and Replace Component" command (its under the Assembly tab, Productivity pack). If I already have an idw of the part, then I will use Vault -Copy Design to copy the part.. just so that I the idw along with it, then manually replace the part in the iam.

When you use Design Assistant to make the changes, as in the video I’ve sent to you, after you have done them, do not click on Refresh, but click directly on Save, as I do in the video.

If you click on Refresh first, the Part Number will go back to the one of the original part. This is a known issue and our Development is working on it.

Instead, if you still get the problem following exactly the steps of my video, it would be helpful if you could provide a little sample data set where, applying the steps of my video I can reproduce the problem you are reporting.

Thanks and regards,

Alessandro
