Inventor 2012 Import from other CAD programs

Thanks for the help with my last post.  Is anyone familiar with the Inventor 2012 import capabilities?  If so, I am looking for some help with figuring out:

-How to get windows file properties to import into iproperties? I've imported CAD files with Windows Summary info entered (such as the Title) of the file, but when I open the imported part file in Inventor its 'Title' field remains blank.  Does anyone have an idea of where the file properties information is stored after import?

-How to get Inventor to import all drawing files associated with parts and subassemblies within an imported assembly file?  When I import the main assembly, all subassemblies and parts are imported from AutoCAD/Mechanical Desktop.  However only the drawings for the subassemblies of the main file are created (excluding drawings tied to parts within the subassemblies).  My config setup is attached.  Do you have any advice on how to remedy this without having to use the task scheduler to import each file associated with my main assembly?  My configuration window is attached.Import1.pngImport2.png

Thanks again for the help,

Candace

A sample .dwg file is attached.  It was created in Mechanical Desktop 2009, meant to be imported into Inventor 2012 as a parametric part.  We are converting all of our MDT files to inventor 2012 so that the parts can be imported with all features in tact for editing (without having to create a link between the two softwares).  With MDT no longer supported, and the support and licensing for Inventor 2012 coming to an end we would like to get our files converted with our current Inventor version before upgrading.

Thanks

Hi,

I don't have any experience with this, but concernig "How to get windows file properties to import into iproperties?" I would say that it could easily be that the importer does not import those settings 😕

In which case you would probably need to use e.g. Windows API to get them from the original DWG file and using Inventor API place them whereever you want them.

Cheers,

It's looking like that is the case. After speaking with Autodesk customer support, they mentioned that the option to import file properties was not made a part of the code.

Thanks for your reply.
