Inventor 2011 doesn't refresh screen after item view change

Here's the specs:

Inventor 2011 Professional 32-bit

Dell Precision M6500
Intel i7 Dual Core M620 2.67GHz
2Gb Ram
Windows 7 Pro
ATI FirePro M7740 1Gb
HD1: 131 of 232Gb free
HD2: 226 of 232Gb free

While working with a simple, one-piece part, as I scroll in or out, the screen won't refresh until I make my next mouse move.

For example. If I want to zoom into a part, I would scroll my mouse wheel in. If I scroll it in ONE click, the part on the screen won't change until I either move the mouse cursor position or scroll in or out again.

So to summarize, it seems that my screen lags, or doesn't refresh with the current view of the part until any other action is taken.

ok so I updated all the files I could, including the video driver (which was already at the latest release) and the chipset drivers (which were out of date). My problem still exists. I did however do the display diagnostics through the Inventor options screen and got this:

This Direct3D graphics driver is not Microsoft WHQL certified
Graphics Hardware Description:
LogMeIn, Inc. ATI display adapter (0x94A3)

AIRViz Device Manager \ VirtualDeviceDx10
Feature Level 4_0
Hardware Renderer

Graphics driver file 7.1.542.0 is version 7.1.542.0
Current optimization settings are not known
The display is using 32-bit color

I also have the same graphics card as you. Discovered today that when I open two dwg files in inventor 2011 through windows explorer inventor crashes, every other crash ending up in a system restart. IT guys said this was the issue:

"When you are opening the file it is causing a kernel error with your video card."

I have a Dell Precision M6400 (Laptop)
Windows XP 64-bit
8Gig Ram
149 GB hard drive (102GB free)
Driver version: 8.633.2.0

Same inventor build as you except running 64 bit version.

I also thought my display was acting funny the other day, but thought that it was just a glich and didn't seem to be anything too specific.

Just to add more info here. Autodesk said to set the hardware setting in the application options to "compatibility" and it seemed to do the trick as far as fixing my crash when opening multiple dwg files.

I have also set the option for compatibility. Unfor, it didn't work. I don't know what to do, but my Dell XPS M2010 w/ Inventor 2009 Pro worked better. 😞

To add more info to this. Compatibility mode did the trick as far as opening the dwg's up. But unfortunately the display of them is less to be desired. The linework is there, text is not. This is also inconstant because sometimes it works good sometimes not. Autodesk also suggested to check the Software graphics box under the application options-Hardware tab but that slowed down the display and system considerably to where I am not sure I could work with it. We also upgraded to the latest driver. No luck at all. First attempt and crashed.

I think I know what has to happen here:

When Autodesk certified my laptop, they tested it with Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit and 4Gb ram. I think I need to upgrade to those and try again.

OOh, could be a thought there. I think I submitted enough crash reports now because the developers emailed me. But I know there were a good 10+ between friday and today just because I can crash it that easily.

Have you figured this out yet? I was about to buy the dell Precision M6500 with the FirePro m7740 card. The other option is an quadro fx 3800m which scores lower in benchmarks and cost $500 more.

No, it's still having the same problem. Since my last update, I've loaded Windows 7 Pro 64bit (instead of 32bit) and I'm still experiencing the same problem. The only thing I have left to do is up my RAM from 2Gb to 4Gb.

Remember, Autodesk certified this laptop with the ATi FirePro M7740 on Win7Pro 64bit w/ 4Gb Ram.

I'll wait until I have all those requirements before I start getting on the horn with Dell and Autodesk.

I found document showing that they certified it with inventor 2010. Did they re-certify it for inventor 2011? There are two drivers listed on Dell's website. Did you try both?

I didn't notice that it was certified with 2010 and not 2011. There are two drivers but one is an ISV driver, which is what would be needed. PLUS, the description for the newer driver says that it fixes problems experienced while using Autodesk software.

Apart from the annoying "buffered last click" of the mouse wheel during zoom, I believe the same fault prevents us from making centreline measurements between two circles or cylinders. During the measure operation, and scrolling between the "select other" options using the mousewheel, we scroll to the centreline option, but when the left mouse button is clicked, the software selects a different option! Have tried everything to resolve, including Win 7 (64) video driver changes for the HD4850, along with all the video options in Inventor. No luck. We are now thinking of switching back to 2010. Does anybody out there have an import/export routine available so that I can convert my 2011 files back to 2010?
