Inventor 2010 Bill of Materials Error

I tried to export the Bill of Materials to an Excel file and was met with: "Couldn't open database--Exception: Unable to create file."

Why did I get this error? My IT manager has stripped everyone of their "administrators" rights. could this be the problem? Or could it be that he messed up the re-install last week?

What OS are you running, and what version ie... 32 or 64 bit.

Forgot to mention... I did not have this problem until today. Last time I needed to run a BOM I had full rights and a re-install of Inventor had NOT been done. (The reinstall was for another problem with the Network License)

Not sure if its the cause but Inventor requires users to be at least a "power user" anything less and you will have problems...

Just tried on one of our machines that has the same OS that doesn't have admin rights and all went well. Might need to try a uninstall and reinstall. Not sure though.

Thanks for your help.

Are ready for this? I just rebuilt the assembly, testing the BOM-to-Excel. All was working well until I got to one sub-assembly. It turns out that this sub-assembly was corrupted somehow. This, I guess, was the culprit. Completed the assembly, minus the bad sub-assy, and all is well. I just tried to BOM-to-Excel this one file and no good. Guess I will have to rebuild that assembly.

thanks for the help tho. I was kinda hoping for some ammo to use to get back my "power user" rights tho! maybe I can still use this!

mike.

Just a quick question: Could having only 2 gig of memory contributed to this? (Not the bad assembly, just this in general) Edited by: lycheamdog on Jun 2, 2010 1:42 PM

Glad you got it figured out. One way to get your admin rights back, tell them you need to upgrade to 64 bit OS and upgrade to Win 7. I am running Vista x64 and now have full admin rights.

If only it were that easy! We have a saying around here, it goes like this:
I would rather have a root canal preformed by a monkey! Why? because it would be less painfull!!
