Inventor 11 and Windows 8.1

I loaded inventor 11 on my Windows 8.1 machine.

It started and contacted mama (registered itself with AutoDESK).  It then ran twice more but I could not open any files (SCHEMA Failure).

Now it doesn't open at all.

Any Suggestions?

You will need to go back to using a WinXP machine or upgrade to a newer version of Inventor (I believe 2014 & 2015 are supported on Win 8.1).

Yea, like that is going to happen. That's how many thousands of dollars??

Even though I agree with you - just too much money for me.

Still - it DID run and talk to mama - then it stopped running.

Think Autodesk had a hand in that?

no windows 8.1 came years after inventor 11 did
even 2014 has problems with windows 8.1

If you have to use Inventor 11 then you will need to get hold of a computer that runs XP (there seem to be lots on e-bay). You could always just use it for Inventor and use the newer machine for everything else.

As DarrenP said even Inventor 2014 which is 7 years newer than Inventor 11 does not work properly on Win8.1

Versus how much money you have already spent (time+hardware) plus how much you will spend (time) trying to force Inventor "11" (I assume you mean 2011) to run on Windows 8.1?

No he really does mean Inventor 11. There are some files posted in a different thread and they are Inventor 11 files not 2011.

@Martin_Goodland Wow.

@dannyc2 You should be aware that you are actually in violation of your EULA. You're only allowed to be behind a few releases. There's a few threads discussing this here.

Thank you all for the replies - yes it is a problem, was hoping someone found a fix. Apparently it is Windows 8 that's the problem - and not just for Autodesk. But that is life, I guess.

Have considered getting an XP machine to just run it.
Was hoping that running in XP emulation mode would work.
