Inv 5 crashes when opening an idw file

Greetings,

Several of our idw files cause Inv 5 (not 5.3, just not much action on the
"Legacy" board) to crash when we try to open them. Some machines are more
problematic than others. The one that is most problematic is a brand new
Dell.

Crash log pretty consistent with the following message:

' Crash Information
' ACCESS_VIOLATION
' Build: M.5.5000.5064bSP2 - Date: Sun 10/21/2001
' Last command started class DLxSelectCmd

Jim,

According to the info he posted he is using R5 sp2. It looks like the crash happened during a selection process in the idw. Is the date correct Howard in the crash log? 10/21/01 last year? If so, you may have to recreate the idw from scratch. I'll look in my archive tools for R5, there may have been a dll that you can replace on your R5 install that would let you open some crashed idws. I'll email it to you on Monday, if I still have it with instructions. Flash

Flash,

I assume that is the correct date. We got the
software Jan/Feb of this year. Have installed SP 1 & 2.

It happens on a couple of machines.

First discovered on our new Dell Dimension
8200

NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420

Driver 7/16/2002 Ver: 3.0.8.2

Swap File: 1536 MB

RAM: 512 Mb

P4 2.4 Ghz

I was able to open one of the 2 files that crashed the new
Dell on an older machine (which has 768 Mb of ram), so I played around with swap
size, undo file size, etc. At one point neither file would open on the "old"
machine either after i had checked the Precise View Generation box.

Look forward to any help you can offer.

Thanks,

Howard
