Inv 2009 - Sheetmetal Cut To Crash

Have come across a repeatable crash when editing a sheetmetal cut.

1) Open the attached file
2) Create a sheetmetal cut using sketch 6
Extents - Select 'To'
Select the bottom of the previous cut
Terminate the cut
OK
3) Now try to edit that cut or sketch

Appears to be every part I have which uses the 'Cut to' option, when editing the cut.

Michael,

When you say "the bottom of the previous cut" do
you mean the face that I have shown in green?

Having created the second cut, I changed the depth
of the first as well as the size and my model seems to beOK.

Yes, I do mean the face in green.

Try and edit the second cut, not the first.

Crashes for me too. Editing Sketch6 after making cut does not cause crash, attempting to edit Cut2 at any time causes crash.

Further checks have revealed that i can edit the cut by double clicking, but the crash only occurs if I RMB to select edit.

Have attached screenshot to clarify method I am using.

I don't get a crash, I get an error because what you want is incorrect. The cut must terminate at a face, it never comes in contact with this face. You can apply mate constraints in this manner but a "cut to" is different. If I was you I would I would cut a distance, equated to d35 (your first cut).

Can you show me your error message...you are selecting the check box as in the screenshot? That will terminate the cut.

I disagree that this is the wrong method.

This part was only an example, not a working part.

If the first cut had been a 'cut across bend' cut, the Parameter d35 would not have been available to use.

It works in 2008 so it must be a problem with 2009.

If it was a cut across a bend then it would use the material thickness (a constant) and it would be more efficient to perform both cuts at once.

Personally I would use one contour flange and one cut.

As I said, not a working part, just an example.

Sometimes difficult to add extra cuts to an existing cutout, if revision change is required, without the whole part failing.

I know it works in 2008 and every previous version down to 5.

I cant believe you checked it in 2008 then tell me my method is wrong.

I did do that 1st. . then I edited it by double click in the parts tree.. and changed back to the "TO" way. Then I did the RMB like you mentioned below and that is when I got the crash.

Hi Michael,

Yes, we can now reproduce! It does seem that how you initiate the edit has
an impact.

We are tracking this as issue # 1066902

Thanks for identifying this issue!

"Sometimes difficult to add extra cuts to an existing cutout, if revision change is required, without the whole part failing."

I am yet to see this happen, even working with 4000+ part assemblies. Could be a problem with the work flow.

Actually I checked it after or why would I say it...

Happens to me also, any sheet metal cut that I try to edit using a Right Mouse Click crashes. If I drop down the plus sign and directly right click on the sketch, I can edit it.

Hope this get fixed soon, a real pain in the *&^&%$ Message was edited by: ricebrianrice
