Intersection - New Body Conundrum

I did this before, now I can't repeat the process.

What am I missing?

I want to Extrude-Intersect-New Body the inside rectangle and Extrude-Cut for clearance the outside rectangle, but I can't get Intersection and New Body in the same feature on this one?

No, I can think of any number of work-around solutions.

I am trying to figure out how I did an Extrude-Intersection-New Body.  (unfortunately I didn't save that file as it was a messy trial working from someone else's orginal)

I did change the extrusion sketch and direction, but that shouldn't make any difference. I tried also tried to set up like the original problem and couldn't reproduce my original results.

Somebody better set me straight quick - I am about to put a fist through the monitor.  How in the world did I do that previous example?

Ok, I figured it out.

When I did an Extrude - Through All - New solid - it stopped at previous solid boundary.  (I didn't use Intersection.)
