Intersect command

I am trying to combine these shapes and leave only the intersection. The wing is a shell. When I combine the shapes, I select the wing as the object, but it will not let me select the grid panels as a tool. Any thoughts as to why not? Thanks.

No file attached?

Find the red End of Part marker in the browser.
(End of Folded on sheet metal parts EOF)
Drag the red EOP to the top of the browser hiding all features.

Save the file with the EOP in a rolled up state.

Right click on the file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the resulting *.zip file here.

Try IE or Chrome if one or the other doesn't work.

Thanks for getting back to me JD. I have attached a png of what I am up to. The grid is made up of thin strips that are bodies. Each strip is a different body, and because I drew them all together in 2D then pushed them into 3D, no boolean operations were performed between them. Do I need to make combine them into a single body in order to make the intersection? If so, how do I do that? BTW, I am working in sim 360 with patch, model, and sculpt workspaces available. If you have sim 360 I can share the file with you. Thanks for your help! Matt

Hi gblmcm,

Does your file have multiple solid bodies? Are either the panels or the wing a surface instead of a solid? You can expand the Solid Bodies and/or Surface Bodies nodes in the browser to determine what you have.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

Thanks for the help Curtis. My browser shows only 'bodies' and doesn't
break in out into surface or solid. I have tried to intersect the wing
with other shapes and it works. I see what you are saying, if the bodies
are surface bodies it will not work. I notice that the grid components do
not have any mass or volume in their properties, where the wing does. I
must have made a surface body instead of a solid body. Thanks for your
help!

Matt
