Internal Threads in IDW's

Does anyone else seem to have a problem dimensioning internal threads with
the "thread/hole not" tool?

I use the t/h notes quite a bit, what problems do you encounter? Have an
example, maybe?

I find that sometimes it's best to "edit" the note to get the proper
documentation. You have several different options on what to include
there. RMB on the hole note, then select edit. Next unselect "Use
Default" and you can edti to your hearts content.

Paul & Albert,

Can you post examples to IVCF?

Seems to work fine for me? J.D.

I think he means on a side view of the
threads.  Not a top down look at the circles.

Ah you mean trying to dim hidden lines I take it. FAIK, never been able to
do that. It'll work on the circle or in a section but if it's not on the
view plane don't think it can work. Usually try to stay away from dimming
hidden lines anyway, so I didn't get it either.

What standard suggests dimensioning to hidden line views? Do a section or break out and it will dimension hole thread note (select right on the edge of hole - not the side). It seems to work on my machine, but I did only one trial. Anybody having a problem have an example to post to IVCF?

FAIK, no standards indorse dimming to hidden lines as I implied by
indicating I try to stay away from that; don't think you can in Inventor
anyway. On the other hand, there are drafting books that say it's not a good
drafting practice but in some cases necessary. I take that to mean if you
don't want to make a proper view that puts the features in question on the
view plane. ... Well ... could be when the boss is on your ... about getting
a shop drawing out yesterday or day before too, I guess.

The problems I have had are with internal threads on section views.

Pick the very edge of hole (circle on edge appears as line) not the thread or side of hole. If you still have trouble post an example to IVCF. I learn more from studying things that don't go right than when everthing works as expected.
