Interference analysis

When conducting an interference analysis is there a way to have inventor create an interference solid when using externally referenced assemblies? When I did it before it just showed there was an interference and gave some generic numbers that are only useful if the interference is a perfect box. Does anyone know how/if this can be done? Plus if there's some other way of doing this and this is a stupid question please let me know that as well.

Through derive we are aware of the need.

Just a few more details on the workaround that Shekar mentioned...

It assumes that you want to find the intersection volume between two sets of
parts in an assembly. This workaround requires the creation of two new part
files.

Create a new part file and derive the assembly selecting one set of part
instances. This should create a solid volume that correspond to that set of
parts. Similarly create a second part file and derive the assembly selecting
the other set of part instances.

Now activate the first part file and derive the second part file using the
"Body as Work Surface" option. Finally use the Split command and select the
surface body as the split tool (please note that you may have to toggle the
"direction button" in the dialog to get the intersection of the two
bodies -- the "other" direction gives the subtraction result).
