If I'd like to put a part on my web-site, should I export it as xgl or zgl?
What kind of plug-in do other need to be able to see, rotate my part?

... which are not much use unless you have a Streamline or similar
RealityWave VizStream based account. Autodesk wants you to go the
Streamline route.

I guess I don't blame them but I'd like to see more options available to me
in this area.

If Dassault is using OpenHSF then that is reason for Autodesk not to (VBG).

You need a VizStream enabled server in order to stream zgl files over the
web or a Streamline or RealityWave account. You can't simply install a
viewer, post a zgl file to your html folder and have a web viewer... well
you can... sort of.... but then visitors could download your zgl file. The
idea is to have the model streamed to the viewer without actually
downloading a file. This gives you control over who sees what and when.

You can download the Streamline extension package for Inventor from the
www.buzzsaw.com site. I assume it includes the xgl/zgl plugin viewer. As I
have already gotten the streamline plugin I've already had this installed I
assume so I can't be sure 100%.

Security is a separate issue IMO.

Security and bandwidth are precisely the issues on the topic of web based
viewing / collaboration. The "web streaming" concept is what makes web
based viewing practical. The viewer is handy but not so practical by
comparison to true web based viewing on which the article was topic.
Plug-ins do nothing without an enabled server to host and stream your data.
My point is to make the distinction for the benefit of Jan and others.
