Inserting parts in assembly

You can insert a part from microsoft windows xp explorer window to Assembly modeling. Here is how. Open both explorer and Inventor side by side. In the explorer winodow, open your project forlder and select view as thumbnails from the view drop down menu. Now you can see all your parts and click the part that you wanted in the assebly, and drag the part to inventor assembly environment to add that part then you can add contrains with other parts

FYI it doesn't just have to be XP. Any windows OS can do this. But a good
tip nonetheless.

You can also Copy / Paste. If you drop into an assembly, it will add
those components to the assembly. If you drop into the little gray
graphic area between an open Inventor window and the graphic frame, the
parts will be opened instead of placed in the assembly. iFeatures can
also be placed via drag / drop.

If you have a part window open, you can RMB on the part name in the
browser and pick copy then switch to an assembly and pick paste. I am
often surprised at how many of the "Windows" functions actually work
like and . Of course I still
keep hitting F2 for rename (a Windows Standard).
