inserted image in sketch will not show up in .idw

i have tried all of the obvious options to get my image to show up in my drawing file, like solid model, shaded etc.. include all surfaces, retrieve sketches, display references etc... saving my picture as every extension possible. i can see the sketch after i include it but its just the outline of my picture. what am i doing wrong??? i have the latest service pack and hotfixes. im trying to do this in inventor 2008 as well as 2009. 2008 is what im working in now though.

Hi bcrain,

It is true that the image in retrieved sketch cannot display in drawing file, and this issue has been put in our working dataset as #454634. Maybe you can insert the image in drawing file directly by Insert menu->Object.

Use decal feature to project the image onto a face then it should show up on shaded view.
