Insert Object Icon Missing When Linked (2014)

The icon to my linked object does not show up in my drawing.

I am trying to insert a link to a bend machine output file in my idw. I do not want to place a new version of the file every time I do an update to the model. The icon remains invisible only when I check the Link box, otherwise the icon will appear, but not linked.

I would also like the model to create the bend machine output file automatically rather than manually. But I don't know how to access the geometric parameters.

I was able to reproduce this issue in 2014 and 2015 software. I will raise the issue with the development team at this time. I do not have a workaround to get this to work.
