Importing Solidworks student license models into Inventor 2010

Hi All,

Hopefully a simple one;

When I try to import files created using Solidworks 2010 (Student License) into my Inventor 2010 I get the message 'Translation Failed. This version is not supported'. Now, that's sounds pretty self explanatory but just want to be sure. So can you confirm it is not possible (as opposed to something weird with my setup)?

Cheers guys.

I think (you'll need to confirm this) Invetnor always translates 1 year behind SWx, because when Invetnor 2010 came out SWx 2010 was not yet released, therefore SWx 2009 is the latest you can translate with Inventor 2010. So the student license is not part of the equation, just the version. You can likely translate the SWx 2010 files with Inventor 2011.

In Solidworks, Export your file to STEP or SAT, then import into Inventor.

Autodesk Inventor 2010 doesn't support reading SolidWorks 2010, while Inventor 2011 does.

You may need to save the SolidWorks 2010 files to STEP/IGES and then import them into Inventor 2010.
