importing mdt file

Trying to migrate a MDT file into IV but when I hit options it will only let
me pick the option for a AutoCAD Mechanical file. It is drawn in MDT 6 and
it opens fine in MDT 6. It even says it is a MDT file. Is there a setting I
am missing? Thanks for the help.

Try opening it in MDT first and then doing the migrate.

Hello Gary,

It is VERY important that you have the latest service pack in MDT and
probably not a bad idea to have the latest Inventor SP. I haven't done a
lot of translations in V6, but in the past the service pack was the most
important thing. I'm sure you saved after opening in MDT... I hated to
ask, but it's important.

If it's not to big, put a copy out in customer files and I'll give it a
try...

I just upgraded to SP2 for IV. tried to translate, didn't work. Tried a
repair on the program, still didn't work. Another guy here with same
settings as me can translate without a problem. Is there a setting to allow
translation? The funny thing about I was able to do it before. I opened MDT
and saved, then tried nothing. tried closing before opening in IV nothing.
It will let me translate to a 2d idw. When I click on options I can't pick
anything except AutoCAD or AutoCAD Mechanical file. It even tells me
"opening this MDT file using AutoCAD options does not allow import of the
assembly structure or parametric models". So it is recognizing it as an MDT
file but I can't tell it to use it as a MDT file.

Mark is right. It's essential that MDTR6 has SP4 installed!

This is not related to your problem maybe, but since you

installed SP4 did you go back and get the assembly.arx fix

for SP4. Just mentioning this so your Mcad 6 is correct

and won't cause you trouble in the future do to the ARX.

When you installed IV6, did you install the migration software? Just a thought

Try a fresh reboot of your computer. I have had trouble with mdt files on import. Try not opening any other files in IV before you import.

I got it to work. I had to uninstall 6 and
reinstall it. got sick of messing around with it. it works like a charm now. I
even compared all the files between mine and a coworkers hard drive and all
related files were the same. I don't know. works now so I'll shut up and knock
on wood it keeps working.
