Importing - Exporting BOM to Dynamics AX

I was asked to find out if anyone has exported BOM to be imported into Dynamics AX? At this point, this is just a feasibility inquire,if it can be done.

We would like to know, in general,  what was involved, any expectations, any headaches, or anything that would need to be known up front.

We are currently using Dynamics AX 2012, R2 to manage BOM's in our production for one of the divisions of our company. Another division of the company, we are exporting the BOM from Inventor to an Excel spreadsheet to accomplish the same task. The company as a whole wants to be consistent, and us Dynamics AX for everything, while utilizing what Inventor can supply and not having to re-enter the information by hand..

Example: Export Part #, Quantity, Cutlength to a table or tables containing the same information in Dynamics AX 2012.

Currently we are using Inventor in Autodesk Product Design Suite Premium 2012. But we are not limited to this version.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome. This is just an inquire to determine the feasibility from Inventor's perspective at this time. We will be posting the same type inquiry on the  Dynamics AX 2012 user group / website as well.

Thank you for all of the input.

Hi Rocky,

MS Dynamics AX is the best choice for operations to get done in formal way. There are plenty of organizations are offering such kind of services like integrating with third party applications. Normally MS Dynamics AX is compatible with Excel, Azure as it is a Microsoft cloud product and other MS product only. But where as coming to third party one we need other plugin support.

As a IT Professional it possible to use other coding ways to accomplish the task of Importing - Exporting BOM to Dynamics AX. You need to write your own code if you are a developer. I am pretty sure you may not belongs to that category. Its better to get in touch with Dynamics AX developers to get custom plugin or you can approach any organization which provides Microsoft Dynamics CRM, AX, NAV and 365 development solutions with affordable price. Take a look of those things. I thinks this info will resolve your problem.
