Importing DWG > IDW

When importing a dwg file into Inventor 6 as an IDW. Most dimensions appear
as a reference dimension ie.....(3.25). As soon as I click and drag on of
the dimensions it changes to a "Default" type dimension, in other words the
parenthesis disappear, however the dimension still cannot be promoted to the
sketch.

Any ideas?

Further investigation has shown that the dimensions are being created on the
sketch in the IDW as a "Driven" dimension. Editing the sketch and changing
the dimension to "Normal" allows edting of the dimension after finishing the
sketch. Is this as designed? It was much more user friendly the otherway
around.
