importing dwg files into inventor IAM file

Hi there,

I have been trying unsucsefully to add a free stock DWG file of a car to my Inventor IAM drawing. I want to place a detailed parked car to the outside of a building which I have created in Inventor.

I have watched lots of videos, but not really getting anywhere.

the file attached is just a one I have been trying with for practice, Ideally I want a suzuki car.

I am sorry but i need walked through steps, as a bit of a newbie at this.

thanks in advance.

Download this file

http://a360.co/1xzbBUi

right click on the zip file and select Extract All

Open the *.ipt file

find the red End of Part marker in the browser and drag it below the Composite feature.

Save the file.

Place Component the file into your assembly.

You did not state that you are using an earlier version of Inventor.

That file was saved in 2015 release of Inventor.

What version of Inventor are you using (I can save to 2014 version if that is what you are using).

In AutoCAD

File Open and open the dwg file.

Explode one time (it is currently a Block).

Save and close the dwg file (actually, you might want to move the block closer to 0,0,0 before exploding).

In Inventor

File Open and set to files of type AutoCAD *.dwg

select the file and click Options

set to Import, OK

click Open

in the import Wizard set to 3D geometry

set to Destination > New Part>Wires to 3D sketch

3D solids>Solids to single part file

Finish

Right click on the Composite body and turn off Transulcency

Save the ipt file.

In the assembly Place Component.
