Importing 3ds files etc

Is there anywhere that I can get some info on the procedure to import 3ds
files an or other formats from sources such as 3dcafe etc.
I realise that I will probably need to bring them through MDT etc, but could
do with a bit of instruction on how to end up with a 3d Inventor part.

Thanks in advance,
Dave Moore.

Open the file in MDT. Use the am2sf command to convert to MDT surfaces (sometimes you need to explode the imported surfaces first). Use igesout command to save as iges surfaces. Open IGES file in Inventor and stitch and promote. If the surfaces form a clean water-tight envelope they should promote to solid. If you have trouble post the orgininal file to IVCF.
