Import .dxf and author as a frame member

Greetings

I have authored a couple of frame member profiles before, but always my own sketches.

I received a .dxf file with about 50 aluminium profiles therein.

I inserted the whole thing into my sketch.

Started a new sketch and projected a single profile.

Exported second sketch as .dxf.

Opened new part, inserted new .dxf.

(This method seemed to allow me to drag the profile back to the origin, if I derived sketch 2 instead it seemed to stick to my workplane, miles away from my origin.)

Then I get 287 dimensions needed!

Boundry patch into a surface.

Thicken surface as a solid.

New sketch, project solid as a closed loop, allowing me to extrude, which I need to have for frame authoring.

It seems to work.

Any thoughts, or better workflows always appreciated.
