Hi,
Is it possible to make an overlay in your IDW from an adaptive part? If yes, how?
In my case I have to make an overlay from a plate wich rests on a spring (unloaded and full loaded position of the spring).
Hope someone can help me with this issue.
Grtz
Not sure what you're asking. you want to put a view of both positions into an idw, one on top of the other?

I think you can do this with positional representations.

Hi Tom_V,
Assuming you've created an assembly with 2 plates and the spring, then you can create a Positional Representation in your assembly as jfleeger suggests, and set the distance between the plates as needed for each positional rep. Then create a drawing view of the assembly specifying one of the Positional Representations , and then use the Overlay View tool to overlay the other Positional Representation over the first.

Making the Position representations and overlay view in my drawing isn't the problem. The Problem is, when I change the distance between the plates, the spring lenght changes in both Position Rep's. So I become something like in the picture below. So my spring in my base view and in my overlayview is the same length...
Notice that the spring is an adaptive part and not 2 parts for each position.
