iAssemblies?

Is it possible to create a iAssembly factory? This would be a huge improvement to inventor. The problem I'm having is that I have 2 identical assemblies but only their length changes and about 3 of the sub components change with that length. The problem is that as the assembly gets worked on I have to duplicate my efforts into the other assembly. Is there another solution to doing this?
