I HATEversion 7!!!!

Does someone has the same problems with version 7 (with sp1)
We (department of 10 persons) work with IV7 since 2-3 months now. And
everyone is complaining about this version. It's crashes 5 time a day (per
person), It's really unstable. And there are thinks we can't do anymore.

I think autodesk took 2 steps back with this version (back to version 5). I
thinks we have to go back to version 6. Because we're losing a lot of money
with this version!!

Does somebody know when version 8 is coming out?

Sorry, for my complain.
But I really want to say that.

Greetings,
Richard van Swam

i've been using 7 sp1 since it came out, and already after 2 fresh installs (on the same system that i ran all previous versions) IV crashes ALOT when i exit the program. not a big deal - it's like IV is so smart that it actually knows when it's 4pm, and just decides to crash at that time. other than that the usual ipoofs still happen. i'm still sticking with my words of "5.3 was the most stable version." -Joe

Same here. Upgraded from 5.0 to 7.0.

As a matter of fact, IV5 is more stable than IV7
All I got is some new features and more crashing ! Excel and derived parts :
just a nightmare !

IV 7 sp1
Dell Workstation PWS 360
Windows XP Pro sp1
Pentium 4 - 3.0 GHz & 1.5GB of RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 1000 - 6.14.10.4403

I take as a given that we all run decent pcs ie no supermarket specials.
I also suspect that anyone that visits this discussion group has loaded about 10 different graphic drivers so far this year.
I just formatted my hard drive and reloaded the entire machine. now it flies. and no probles.
for a app like IV I would suggest a hard drive format at least once in six months.(reinstalling IV will not help, because some of the corrupted files will still be there) load your graphic drivers from manufacturer's cd and then do only ONE update, and then LEAVE THE PC ALONE. This should guarantee smooth running for a while.
A bad network can also cause huge problems, so try running with your network plugged out and only plug in for backing up at end of day.
if you still have problems after all the above , then blame Inventor.

I still have soft spot for 5.3 but 7 is also
doing great here with nary a problem.

compatibility, compatibility and also
compatibility are the keys to smooth Inventor operation. If Inv doesn't
like the hardware or the drivers you have then it's a living nightmare but if it
does it's almost perfect bliss (not Charles) <G>

I find version 7 much more stable than 6.

What annoys me the most is that 6 and 7 are so lethargic. 5 was fast!
BAM!

I find 7 SP 1 is about as stable as 6 SP2 and 5.3.

I do get iPoofs but Ctrl S is such a patterned response that they rarely
cost me 3 minutes per day.

I had hardware problems when 7 first shipped. These were traced to an
archaic computer (close to 3 years old). Since I have purchased a new
computer with graphics card and driver specifically tested and
recommended for IV, I have not had one crash (this means for the last 7
weeks).

R7 has been remarkably stable but I am running on a Dell M50 which has
always been good with Inventor.

If you are running XP, things to look at, are you running with ZIP
folders enabled? Are you running Anti-Virus software configured to
check everything in sight (like inventor files).

Oh yeah, a really nasty one, do you have multiple Content Library /
Fastener Library add-ins loaded? Try unloading all add-ins and see if
this solves the problem. If it does, then enable them one at a time
until you find the culprit.

*Sigh*  It's time for me to do it.  I'm overdue,

going to be a two-day ordeal.  Yesterday, Design Assistant quit working on
me.  It just crashes when I try to implement the changes I
specify.  A repair install didn't fix it, and a
complete-reinstall-with-registry-sweep didn't do it either.  I'm going to
have to dive in and wipe the hard drive.  Nuts.

Yup, I do a complete re-format once a year or as
needed. I was having trouble with INV7 a month ago, done a re-format and put
back just the basics and other than about 1 crash a week and getting the darn
garbled text sometimes INV7 is now real slick.
