How to rotate without using free rotate

Hello Autodesk Forum,

We are the Charging Champions, FTC team #8660. We are using the Autodesk Inventor Professional 2015 STUDENT VERSION. We were not able to rotate accurately (we had to use the free rotate option, which isn't accurate) after we placed an object. Is there any way to rotate an object without using the free rotate option?

Thank you,

The Charging Champions

That's nice that you are Charging Champions.

If you place a component and it appears to be frozen/locked in position with only a single constraint, you most likely have bad/sick constraints in your IAM file.

In the constraints tab, if the Show-Sick constraints Icon is not grey'd out you have sick constraints in your IAM file. Selecting this icon will high-light your constraints that are bad. Once you fix these, your model components should begin moving properly.

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

Think of assembly in the digitial world in the same way that you assembly components in the real world.

In the real world you manipulate into approximate orientation free-hand.

The digital equivalent is the Inventor Free Rotate.

Now you are ready to position exactly.

In the real world you have some sort of connecting features (like pins and holes, or screw fasteners or some feature....)

The digital equivalent is the Inventor Assembly Constraints.

If you can't figure it out - attach your assembly here and someone will demonstrate.
