How to relink a broken derived part?

Hi,

I created a derived part and I broken the link with its parent. Is there a way to relink the two parts?

Autodesk Inventor 2011

Thanks in advance.

M.

Next time Suppress Link rather than Break Link.

I think once its broke... its broke. No way to get it back.  How bad would it be to recreate it?

You might try opening an old version from before you broke the link.

Seriously? Is this still true in Inventor 2015?

I haven't checked - but I sure hope so.

I expect Break Link to do exactly what it says.

Hi,

Sorry, I should have been more clear.

Yes, break link should do as expected. I was hoping that in 2015 we might have a better way to relink to a part file.

Recently one of our users just asked me this, and I found the solution was not posted here yet. To anyone who may benefit from this, you can always re-derive the component in your part:

--> Inventor derived component "B" has broken link to component "A", and needs re-attaching to update with changes to component "A": open component "B" and select to "Derive" again, then after finishing this operation delete the previous broken derive item from the part.
