How to preserve colors when importing Google Sketchup files into Inventor?

Has anyone determined a conversion method to get 3D Sketchup files

into Inventor... i.e. while still retaining the color of it's individual mesh

elements?

NOTE:

After using Inventor Fusion to open Sketchup files in order to save for

available formats in Inventor... the conversion that worked the best for

us, was*.stl files... i.e. however, Sterelography files of course do contain

any color information... and once imported into Inventor, it is a single mesh...

so one cannot recolor individual elements in the assembly.
