How to open a Staad Model in Inventor 2010

I understand that using Revit or something will work better but i was wondering if there was any way to import a Staad model into inventor. I understand that there is no quick fix as far as i know like changing the file extension but wonder if anyone had any luck using the frame generator on a staad stick figure model.  Thanks

With Inventor, you could use Frame Generator Calculator to analysis the frame structure.

If you need more analyst result, you could use Algor or  Autodesk® Simulation Mechanical and Autodesk® Simulation Multiphysics

Thank you for the info, however i am trying to use the frame gen to build off of a staad model in inventor. The analysis function is nice but i am asking on how to import a already designed model (from staad) into inventor to build from.

Hi Jason --

Post the STD file here (or somewhere else), I'll try to import it in my FEA software (it can open STAAD-Pro files) and then I can save as DXF, IGES or STEP. Will that work for you?

The forum will not allow a .std staad file to be attached for some reason. Says it is not a valid file extension. I appreciate the help and willingness to help convert this file but i am looking for long term (multiple) files to be able to import and steps on how to achive this more than once. I am going to assume that without said programs it is not possible.? Thanks

No, there is no out-of-the-box solution with Inventor for reading STAAD files. Obviously, if you have STAAD, you can export from there, but otherwise you need software that can read STAAD and convert the files to something else that Inventor understands.

Upon further review of the file extensions, i was able to export a Staad file as a DXF file and able to open or import that file as a part (2D or 3D wireframe) into Inventor. This was my goal and wanted to post as FYI   Thanks
