How to make a spring move

Hello everybody, I'm doing a project for school and I built a shock absorber. I've already done about 50% of the project, but I'm havin a problem with the spring, I can't make it move. And I don't want to use any animations, I want to be able to move the part manually. Also there is a preload force applying on the spring, so I have to move (preload) it for x mm to the left. How do I do that? I've attached a photo and the project files for you to understand what I need.

1. How do I make the spring moveable

2. How do I set an offset between the 2 plates, for the spring to be preloaded

Open "forum" file from the project folder to see the part.

Project files

Thank you.

Curt,

I would have you look at:

Spring/Damper/Jack joint properties

Good luck.

So the way I've created the spring is wrong? Isn't possible to make changes on this spring? Cause using your method creates a random spring. And I have to buit a certain spring.

Can you attach your assembly here?

Zip, not rar.

Here, not 3rd party dropbox.

You need to adjust the spring ... from Rev to pitch

here is a video that might help ...

I got that. But isn't there a posibility to compress the spring by the mouse? I have to do 2 drawings of that shock absorber, one when it is uncompressed and another one when it is compressed. Til now I have done two assemblies with two different spring dimensions in order to make my two drawings. I tried that method with the Drive Constraint but I had no luck. Could someone help me?

No ... (sorry for the caps the first time)

Get it moving ..then make a Position Design Representation views.

Get the constraints so you have one normal and one compress....

Then in the IDW you pick the one you want, or you can show both with one of them being phantom or hidden line style

First thing I notice is that this Hole feature is the wrong size.

An M20 fastener will simply slide out of a 20mm hole - no material for thread engagment.

If you use the threaded option of the Hole feature - Inventor will automatically give you the correct tap drill size.

Here we go again.PNG

And another one.

and another one.PNG

There are two Service Packs available for r2014.

My initial thought was that this was a Dynamic Simulation question, not a drawing question.

You can set up the spring so that as you drag a part with the mouse - it changes size, but this will not solve your drawing views problem.

Hi!

You have to pick some references from other parts whitin the assembly.

Build the spring in the assembly context and then, when you move those components, the spring adjusts.

Hi!!

The question is... your spring isn´t adaptative... it has a fixed Height value, so it can't moove around this fixed value.

You have to model a new spring, based in the position of the other parts in the assembly.

Do you have 2015 inventro version? or only 2014??

It is finally working for me now, I made some changes on my spring and it works. But sadly it's not really what I need, because in reality the spring increases his outer diameter when it is compressed, and with the Drive option the spring does not change his diameter. But thank you anyway.
