How to get total mass (wt) in Parts list?

Is there a way to get a summary row in the parts list to show a total of the
'mass' column?

Thanks

I have seen it done a couple ways but the easiest is to create a second Parts List style that has the columns and roll up already defined and just place it when you need it.

See attached

hey that's good stuff, thanks for sending
that!

I will probably just do the text object idea
somewhere in the title block.  I was hoping for a little checkbox somewhere
in the parts list dialog to add a summary row...

Thanks

Your Parts List method only works correctly
if all parts have the same quantity.  Try putting a second instance of
one of the parts in the assembly; your Parts List will now show TWO entries -
one totaling the mass of all the parts with a quantity of one, and the other
showing two times mass of the component used twice.

In other words, performing the roll-up based upon
quantity isn't a good idea.  I use the same general method to display the
total mass, but roll everything up based upon Project (which, in our case, is
ALWAYS the same for all the components).

Great Point! I used Item QTy just because it was the same for each. As long as you use one that is the same to all components this shouldn't be a problem.

Wow... after searching all night finally this topic makes things easier and simple for grouping and having a sum of value for a particular column.

I have tried the steps outlined in your pdf, as well as those indicated here:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=14078636&linkID=9242018

The problem I am seeing is that the BOM will not modify the "Category" for standard content, or user-defined content, for that matter (see attached).

Am I missing something here?

Thanks.
