Hey there Inventor Geniuses!
I'm having trouble creating a turoidal coil in Inventor 2013. I have seen a few different solutions here in the forums, but as I'm a relatively new user to Inventor, I can't quite follow the vague & assuming-I-know-what-I'm-doing steps shared in how to create the part.
I've attached a photo of the actual part I would like to create (an Inductor Toroid), and also the .ipt file for the size and shape of the part I would like the coil to wrap around.
I've been trying to mess around with 3D sketches and sweeps and coils, but have only succeeded in frustrating myself. I know I could simply palce a 'general' shape for this part in my visual assembly, but I'm always trying to learn how to use new aspects of Inventor to create new parts for my company. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here is what I came up with. I would post my models, except I have 2014 so that would not do you much good.
Here is what the final assembly looks like.
What I did was create a part that looks like this using 3D sketch and the sweep feature to give you the geometry.
Once I had the sketch I wanted that was dimensioned properly and wrapped around your core properly. I inserted it into the assembly containing the core and positioned it correctly and did a circular pattern.
Is this the easierst way? Maybe not, but it does give you somewhat of what you are looking for. You can tweek the coil peice to lace better and adjust the sketch if you want less windings.
