How to Coil a Coil

Hi,

I have a question, can we coil a coil in nventor?

If I have a coil or spring, the I want to coil that coil/spring around another axies, can I??

 

I use Inv.2012

Search this forum.  There have been a number of threads over the last several years dealing with this problem.  I'd try using the Bend tool, I think.  I'm not sure whether you can bend more than 360°, though.  But be aware that this is going to be a resource hog-- helices are really math-intensive.  If you don't need a functional model, you might consider using a textured appearance instead, kind of like the cosmetic threads that Inventor uses on screws.

But I tried the Bend comand, it could not help me.

A better way is with an Excel formula of points to generate a sweep curve.

In Inventor 2013 you can enter the formula directly (unfortunately I don't know it by heart - a search should return the forumla to use).
