How long till this really causes some major fault (Text issues)

I know Autodesk have all sorts of ways around responsibility in their
license agreement but if there is a serious accident from faulty machinery
due to this unbelievably bad bug, will that hold up in court?

This is out of control, to have CAD software of all things, doing this
defies all logic. Autodesk's credibility has dropped so much to me over
this.

Its CAD software! and it displays its dimensions wrong? I just cannot accept
this as a bug. Man, this is an absolutely low level fundamental flaw,
perhaps even bad enough IMO for a product recall.

Maybe the ability to display dimensions correctly is something for which you
need to purchase the Pro version. Why would the amateurs want that? Or
maybe we will go modular like Catia and ProE, whereby there will be a model
entitled "Accurate dimensioning module" for an extra $ ???.

Sorry, Autodesk, I could not resist that, it is just that like my
incorrectly drawn cross sectioned threaded assemblies which I have posted
complaints about since IV5, this is simply ridiculous. At least give us one
of them: Either CAD which can produce proper drawings or CAD which can
display correct dimensions. To have both fixed would blow our minds.

I too see this from time to time and it's a PITA, but after 'rebooting'
Inventor it's OK again.
I don't have a clue as to what triggers this behaviour...

My experience with the problem is much like Peer's. It is a dangerous
problem though. Many times the text is obviously scrambled with letters
mixed in with numbers. In these cases, I recognize it immediately, mutter
some thanks to Adesk, and exit Inventor. The dangerous instances are when
fewer locations are affected and numbers are replaced with other numbers.
In these cases I often do not see the errors for some time. These can get
printed and distributed resulting in expensive mistakes due to the software.
Yes, the garbled text continues to print that way.

The entire thread was pulled by Autodesk. Truth hurts huh?

Nick,
I don't beleive for a second that this is not high on Autodesk fix list. I
KNOW they are working hard to fix it and no it would not be a PRO option.
Thats just plain silly.
But still it has been there for 2 full releases and it just seems absurd
that it still does it. utterly unforgivable.
Autodesk I know you guys are working hard on this but truthfully you need to
work harder. It needs to be fixed. period.

I just had this happen on a part of a large assembly. This is definitely a
problem

I have also observed Inventor displaying the incorrect dimension in the part
modeler, but have yet to observe a wrong dimension in an IDW printout. But
given Ed's observation, I am beginning to question the likelihood of this
happening. Has anyone observed Inventor 7 SP 1 printing out a dimension that
was different than the part model?

This is particularly relevant to me just now as I have dropped my
subscription in the wake of the Inventor Pro fiasco and given that everyone
is now looking to Release 8 I do not expect we will be geeting another
service pack for Inventor 7.

A couple of weeks ago I installed IV7SP1 on a couple of old machines we had
to see how bad a card Inventor would tolerate (S3 Graphics). I saw this
kind of thing happen while in sketch. In my case I would give it 1.500 and
the dimension displayed 1.555. No problems in the idw. Tried every setting
for the driver then finally out in a Quadro4, problem gone. Don't know if
this relates directly but it's worth taking a look at.
