How do you display only the objects on Section Cut Line?

I'd like to do section views in an IDW of a building assembly with equipment at the column lines. I just want to see the objects that the secion lines cut, not get a view perpendicular to the secion line plane that shows all the equipment behide the column line. IS this possible? Thanks in advance. Rosco

Use a design view in the assembly to see what you
want. Then apply that design view to the section view only.

Paper-thin sections, I believe they're called, are not (yet) a
feature available in Inventor as in other SoftWare.

Rosco:

In the idw, go to the parent view in the browser. RMB on this view and
select 'Show Contents', this will expand to show all of the components
in the assembly that you are sectioning. RMB any components you want to
hide and select 'Visibility' to hide them.

Rosco.

A thread earlier on in this newsgroup discussed
this problem. A workaround for this is to put an extra view outside your drawing
boundary and make a section view cut out and place this in your drawing. See
attached pictures for info.

Could not see the picture. Make sure you ATTACH (paper clip in toolbar) the
picture, not INSERT it, from OE.

Sorry about that. I hope those who want to view
this have MS Word. Because 3 people on the shop floor drew pictures in Paint
everybody has lost any program to edit pictures or print screens. I will place
it in customer files.

Thanks for the input. I'd like to not have to change an objects visability individually. The extra view outside the boundary with the section cut out of that view interests me. Is the section of the section outside the border a regular section view or a break out view. The "section view cut out" confuses me. I think I understand the thinking but I'm unsure how to get there. I can see that if a section view dispays everthing in the section arrow's direction, a section of the section with the same cutting plane and its arrow pointing the opposite direction should just display what is in the section plane. Is that the thought process? I'm havinig a problem getting the second section views plane to be the same as the first's. In the IDW I seem to be in a 2d environment and can't get the plane right. I only get a top or bottom view of the section. Thanks again. Rosco

How do you hide H line to not show the crazy section?

I don't hide the "crazy" section line since I've created this on a view
placed outside the drawing and only use the section view in my drawing. In
the drawing I use Sketched symbols to show where it is taken from.
Hope I didn't sound confusing.

It is a regular section view.

After generating the section view I just make a
projected view of the section to.

They are not the same line. I just dimension them to be lets say 1 mm.
that's why it seems to be only one line. (Start off vert. - goes hor. - goes
vert. again - then hor. and finally vert.)
