Why not try a derived part? Model the "before" part like you want to show
it, and make a drawing based on that part. Then, derive a part from that
part. This "new" part can be modified by removing material, then adding
material to show it in the "after" state. Your assembly can reference in
this "new" part to show it in the assembled condition.
