How do I show a part correct in the assembly and the individual idw?

How do I show a part correct in the assembly and the individual idw?

Lets say I have a plug that gets pressed into a cup. The open end of the
cup is rolled over the top of the plug. I now need to make idw's for each
of these parts. My question is how do I make a drawing of the cup with out
the top rolled over for the idw but also have it shown rolled over in the
assembly?

Can you make a flat pattern of it? As long as there are no deformations in
the plastic as it gets rolled this should work. Goto Applications/Sheet
Metal and you should be able to select a face and then create a flat
pattern. When you make the IDW you can choose between folded and flat like
design views in an assembly.

Kathy,
I guess I did not give you enough information or I just don't understand.
My to parts are solid parts, not sheet metal. The cup in the real world is
a drawn alluminum cup. The idw needs to show it in the after drawn
condition but before it has been rolled, crimped is better term.

Then you need two different parts. One to show the drawn and one to show
the blank. You could link the two to the same spread sheet or ipt to draw
from the same parameters.

Why not try a derived part? Model the "before" part like you want to show
it, and make a drawing based on that part. Then, derive a part from that
part. This "new" part can be modified by removing material, then adding
material to show it in the "after" state. Your assembly can reference in
this "new" part to show it in the assembled condition.

Thanks Stephen,

I will try deriving the part. Just wondering if the derived part will show
up in the BOM list with the correct part number which is the file name.

If you had the ability to show two versions of the same part from the
same part file... you could easily model the crimp as a separate
feature in both the crimped and un-crimped state in one file. That
would keep the design intent apparent and eliminate excessive files.
